Macau Driving Theory

Exam dates and bad weather

Moving a theory or road test to another date, and what happens on typhoon and black rainstorm days.

Moving an exam to an earlier or later date

You can only move an exam for one of these reasons:

  • you are pregnant (bring a doctor's certificate)
  • you work in the public sector or for a public transport company, and your manager writes that your work needs it
  • you have difficulty moving around (bring a doctor's certificate)
  • you are leaving Macau, or expect to leave, for 6 months or more
  • you will be outside Macau on the day of the exam

Apply at least 5 working days before the exam. Moving it to an earlier date costs MOP 600. Moving it to a later date costs MOP 400.

If you missed an exam because you were ill or had an accident (bring a doctor's certificate), or because of something else you couldn't control, you can ask for a later date. Ask within 15 days after the exam.

For your first theory test, the earliest date you can move it to is 28 days after you first applied.

Typhoon signal 8 or higher, or a black rainstorm

What happens depends on the time the signal is taken down.

Theory test:

  • Before 7:30 am: all sessions that day go ahead.
  • Between 7:30 and 9 am: the first morning session (M1) moves to another day. The later morning session (M3) goes ahead.
  • Between 9 am and noon: the later morning session (M3) moves to another day. The afternoon goes ahead.
  • At noon or later: the afternoon moves to another day.

Road test, typhoon signal 8 or higher:

  • Before 7:30 am: the whole day goes ahead.
  • Between 7:30 and 9 am: the morning moves to another day. The afternoon goes ahead.
  • At 9 am or later: the whole day moves to another day.

Road test, black rainstorm:

  • Before 7:30 am: the whole day goes ahead.
  • Between 7:30 and 9 am: the morning moves to another day. The afternoon goes ahead.
  • At noon or later: the afternoon moves to another day.

If a black rainstorm signal goes up during a road test, the test centre decides whether to finish the tests or stop them.

If you can't come to a session that goes ahead, or to the new date, you can ask to change the date once, for free.
